Dr Ian Gawler
OAM, BVSc MCounsHS, founder of MBM and the Australian male voice guide in the program
Ian’s experience and knowledge of meditation and philosophy comes from over 30 years of studying, teaching and writing numerous books on these subjects. As an experienced and respected global authority, Ian has introduced meditation to over 100,00 people worldwide and is also the founder and ex-therapeutic director of the Gawler Foundation. In 1987 he was awarded an Order of Australia (OAM) for his contributions to the community.
Diagnosed with a very difficult cancer in the mid 1970s Ian’s journey to recovery led him to, Dr Ainslie Meares, an Australian psychiatrist who was the first major Westerner to apply meditation in a therapeutic setting. Ian was mentored by Dr Meares for many years and also became a student of the great Tibetan teacher Sogyal Rinpoche, author of The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying.
Ian has also kept his humour - deciding to wear a kaftan when you only have one leg does make people give you a funny look, but the comfort is worth it!
BE (Hons), BCom and founder of MBM
Saurabh is the business head of the team. He is a details man who likes to resolve problems through new technologies, and has developed four successful IT based service businesses in the healthcare industry (healthnotes.com.au, eclinic.com.au, marketreach.net.au, palcare.com.au). His interest in meditation started in the mid 1990s when he read many books on the subject before becoming a serious practitioner in 2005. His storytelling abilities are legend round the office (and at home unfortunately!) as he loves to share any pearls of wisdom that come his way. Although a busy dad of three children, Saurabh finds time to volunteer for TIE, a not-for-profit organisation to promote entrepreneurship, and for Eastern Palliative Care, spending some time each week with one of their clients, giving them company. Saurabh is also a trained singer in the Indian classical music tradition.
